Creative Critical Reflection (CCR)

Spiked - CCR

Movie Opener Final Draft

Spiked Movie Opening Changes Made In order to make the poisoning of the victim more clear and obvious, we took new clips off the killer putting the poison in the victim's cup. We also combined those clips with new clips of Kelly, our victim, being sick. Our new movie clip included the title of our movie, as well as the name of the actors in the movie opening.

Peer Reviews

What I liked What confused me Suggestions The fade in at the beginning was a very nice touch. The suspenseful music kept me wanting to find out more. The 24 hours earlier was a smart factor to add because viewers want to know what caused the mysterious person to follow and eventually poison the girl. Showing how vigilant the killer was was executed nicely. When the poison was being mixed, it had left me confused. I didn’t know if the girl was mixing it herself or if the killer was mixing it for the girl to come back to. However, I figured the second made the most sense. Show the killer mixing the poison and have more angle variety. For example, when the main character walks through the plaza into Starbucks she could be shown from the front too. The Killer could be shown from a low angle to highlight his or hers importance/ malevolence. I really liked the music and the cuts between the two scenes. It made the plot really easy to follow and I understood what was going on.

Week 9 Movie Opener First Cut

Week 8 Editing Film Opening

Image
This week we edited more of the clips we filmed a few weeks ago. We are in the process of finishing up on editing these clips by cropping and organizing clips the way we want the final movie opening to look like. We have a lot of switching between different characters point of views, so we need to crop some of the clips to make them shorter in order to fit in the opening. We still have to film a few more clips for the ending of our opening, so we will be filming later this week. We still need to shoot some clips of our actresses in the dark around nighttime, so we are planning on finding a night where all of us can meet.

Week 7 Editing Film Opening

Image
Unfortunately, due to difficulties in organizing a time when all members of the group can get together, we have not finished filming our opening. On the other hand, we have begun piecing together and editing some of the clips we have taken thus far.  When it comes to the editing process, we have begun to organize the clips into an order in which we believe the film will make the most sense and be the most suspenseful. In the clips we have edited so far, there is a lot of cutting back and forth between both of the characters in our film. We also included some clips that display visuals from the point of view of the stalker, as well as an over the shoulder shot. We have yet to come up with a specific title for our movie, but we have begun brainstorming ideas.

Week 6 Filming

Image
This week our group continued to film our opening. This week we decided to try out some new camera angles and shots in order to fully plan out the rest of the opening. We took some shots of our actress Kelly as she played a scared girl being stalked by a mysterious stranger.   We chose to try some shots of Kelly inside in order to give ourselves options for clips to include in our opening when it came time to edit and put it all together. We took shots of Kelly in a separate outfit to show that time had passed since the stalker had last been watching her. This also allows the rest of the movie to be based on this background information, so it can fill in the pieces and answer questions that the opening left unanswered.

Week 5 Filming

Image
This week our group began filming parts of our opening scene. Our first step was to find the perfect location to film the scenes of our actress going through parts of her normal day. Thus, my group and I decided to film in the parking lot and at the Starbucks of the Kings Lake Plaza. We then took videos of our actress, Kelly, doing activities, such as buying a coffee, walking around, and driving. We also filmed scenes of her stalker/the bad guy following Kelly around the plaza. We ended up making our villain a girl (Zoe) instead of a boy because it was easier for us as a group of girls to use her as an actor. The Kings Lake Plaza was perfect for these scenes because it has plenty of stores and space to make it appear more realistic. The lighting of our scenes came out perfect as the sun was out, and the quality of our videos was also very clear and came out well. The only issue we encountered was finding a way to film Kelly driving with Zoe following without getting in the way o

Week 4 Preparing to Film

When it comes to the actors of the opening, we will have two: a girl (main character) and boy (villain). We are still deciding who will be the actors in our film, but we will finalize them soon. The costumes used in the film will be damaged/bloodied clothing on both the girl and boy, as well as the clean version of both for the flashback scenes. In regard to the props used in the opening, we will be using a fake knife as the villain's weapon, basic objects to make the background look normal, and fake blood. We will be filming a normal and bright area for the flashbacks and a darker area to give a more suspenseful and mysterious effect. At the moment we are undecided on when we plan on filming the opening, but we will know very soon. We will not be writing a script since there is not any dialogue between the characters in the film, except for the girl screaming at certain points. We will have suspenseful and/or happy music playing the background of the film. We will be using both a

Week 3: Storyboarding

Image
My group decided to begin with a dolly shot of our main girl character as she walks into a dimly lit area. The girl then slides down and sits on the ground, which is when the camera shot reveals that she is bloody and bruised. The next camera shot is a close up of the girls face while she is shaking. As the camera zooms in, flashbacks from previous memories are revealed. These flashbacks display pieces of the sequence of events that led to the girl's current state. As the flashbacks are shown at a faster pace, tension is continuously building before the scene cuts. The final piece of the opening is of a black screen that reads "24 hours earlier", so the rest of the movie would be an explanation of what happened and led to the events that occurred in this opening scene. Week 2: Brainstorming

Film Notes Rise The camera placed in the trunk of the car was a really creative place to take a camera shot. The opening also included some other innovative camera shots, including the bird's eye shot of the boy walking and dropping his things in the grass. It was cool to hear the music get intense as the boy shot goals and then fade when a separate person began talking, but the shifts in the music level did seem a bit too dramatic at some points. However, I thought the music choice fit for this opening scene because it created a dramatic tone. Offline I will admit at first I was confused at what was happening in the film. At first, I did not recognize  that it was the same girl in both versions of the story, but once I did, the music seemed to suit the drama film. I could see that the makers on the film were attempting to create an effect of contrast by depicting the girl in both the cage and her daily life at what appears to be the same time. Dear Lover The narrator'

Inspiration to choose Horror

I was inspired to choose the horror genre because I find the process of filming and producing a horror film very interesting because of how the movie effects make the movie appear to have twists and cause suspense. For example, the movie The Shallows uses an extensive amount of cuts in order to transition from one scene to the next in a manner that has the audience on the edge of their seat for the majority of the movie. The Shallows opens will a scene of a child playing with a soccer ball on the beach near the water. As the child continues playing down the beach, he stubbles upon a camera helmet that has washed ashore. The child opens the camera and begins to play its film. The camera film depicts the point of view of a surfer as he surfs with another friend, but all of the sudden he falls into the water. Then you hear him screaming and it appears that he is struggling under the water, and the final shot of the camera shows a shark coming straight at the person with the camera on hi
