Inspiration to choose Horror

I was inspired to choose the horror genre because I find the process of filming and producing a horror film very interesting because of how the movie effects make the movie appear to have twists and cause suspense. For example, the movie The Shallows uses an extensive amount of cuts in order to transition from one scene to the next in a manner that has the audience on the edge of their seat for the majority of the movie. The Shallows opens will a scene of a child playing with a soccer ball on the beach near the water. As the child continues playing down the beach, he stubbles upon a camera helmet that has washed ashore. The child opens the camera and begins to play its film. The camera film depicts the point of view of a surfer as he surfs with another friend, but all of the sudden he falls into the water. Then you hear him screaming and it appears that he is struggling under the water, and the final shot of the camera shows a shark coming straight at the person with the camera on his head ready to attack. This opening caused major suspense, not only in the small camera video, but in the situation entirely because it makes the audience wonder whether the shark is still out there. The movie originally cut to a specific area in the ocean, which could possibly refer to another future victim of the shark. This opening scene drew the audience into the the movie and made them curious about how the rest of the movie was going to develop. I was also inspired to choose the horror genre because of how horror movies make people feel when they experience them. Horror movies tend to make people feel exhilarated and thrilled. These emotions are what convince people to watch horror movies because they bring out the emotions one would experience on a roller coaster, however, they follow a plot. For instance, the horror movie It follows the plot of two young brothers, one of which disappears on a rainy day, and the other brother then goes on a journey with some friends in search of his younger brother. The emotions the audience invests into the film, including their desire to see the two brothers back together, are a few of the main aspects of It that keeps the audience interested. Some other aspects of the film that intrigue the audience are the use of a variety of camera shots and angles, including close-up and long shots, as well as high and low angles. The use of these camera shots and angles allows the audience to interpret the movie in a certain way, possibly making the horror movie It scarier than it would be without the use of certain camera shots and angles. Therefore, the horror genre provides it audience with a roller coaster of emotions by using a variety of camera shots and angles. This creates suspense and tension between the movie and the audience, as well as within the movie itself. For these reasons, I was inspired to chose the horror genre.
